Elizabeth Kaschins joined the Preus Library faculty in the fall of 1970 and retired after thirty-four years of service in May 2004. Areas of primary responsibility and interest during her tenure in Preus Library were reference services, course-related library instruction, the Curriculum Library, collection development and evaluation, and resource sharing/interlibrary loan. She was the senior reference librarian from 1982 – 2004 and served as head librarian and library department head from 2000 until retirement in 2004.
Kaschins was an active participant in campus activities and college governance, servingin leadership positions on several college committees and task forces, as an academic advisor to students, and as library liaison to the Paideia faculty. She also held membership and leadership positions in the national and Iowa professional organizations for academic librarians.
She holds a bachelor of science degree in secondary education with a major in history and minor in English from Northwestern University, 1962, and a master of arts degree from the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Iowa, 1969.
