Ryan presented information on a Primary Source Material from 18th and 19th Century Periodicals collection from Accessible Archives. The group decided to request a free trial because of potential use in Paideia.

Germano announced that the sign-up sheet for spring reference shifts will start circulating soon.

Jane led a discussion of the departmental response document and made note of several suggestions.

Andi presented us with data regarding our Information Literacy activities from 07-08 to the present in relation to the full-time faculty in our liaison departments. She distributed a handout to each of the liaison librarians including this data and a target for J-term & spring semester 2010. More IL discussion will follow.

Ryan brought our attention to a recent blog post where he presented some data about searching in Encore and Magnus. “Naxos” and “JSTOR” are the two most popular terms.

Germano exhorted the group to be contacting their professors for the Paidea research paper sections. All but two topics have now been decided.

Germano announced that the Spring reference schedule will be circulating soon.

John discussed the state of the library materials budget and some recent adjustments to the spreadsheet.

John suggested that we buy into the current OCLC/Netlibrary Academic ebook collection.

Andi presented an overview of RPS data in relation to our modules for Paideia research instruction. We discussed how best to work to meet the Paideia research goals.

Andi led a discussion of recent meetings with departments regarding senior paper/projects with a focus on possible future initiatives. Meetings with Political Science, Religion, Education, Psychology, Math, Environmental Studies and Russian Studies were discussed. This was followed by a broader discussion of ideas for the Spring.

Naxos student users can now create playlists

Luther students can now create their own playlists in the Naxos Music Library. Interested students can go to the Naxos site and follow the links under the Latest News section, or they can consult the pdf Playlist User Guide and follow the instructions there.

Credo Reference now available

Credo Reference, an online collection of over 430 full-text reference sources from over 60 scholarly publishers, is now available.

Library professional staff meeting 11-2-2009

Present: Andi, Rachel, Ryan, John, Jane, Lindy, Germano, Rebecca.

Jane gathered reports from everyone about the status of lost books and their replacements.

Lindy brought a request to purchase the Encyclopedia of Communication Theory and the group agreed to purchase the print edition.

Andi & Germano led a spirited discussion of research modules and topics for the Paideia I research paper.

Jane informed the group that the staffing plan is in transition and will be discussed further at a future meeting.

I also attended the ILA conference. As is often the case many of the most interesting moments occurred in conversations with colleagues during the breaks and meals.

Germano and Lindy presented their new language for Reference Services in the Emergency Response Planning document.

John presented the final decisions reached with the department liaisons regarding the print duplication/cancellation project for group approval.
