LIBRARY PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEETING
November 10, 2008, 9:15 a.m., Hovde
Present: Chris, Andi, Ryan, John, Jane, Lindy, Germano, Rebecca, Rachel.
Continued discussion from last week pertaining to internship questions. Will revisit this again at a later meeting.
Ryan has done more work on the tutorial on the Washington site. This works well for us. Will go ahead with this model.
The subcommittee has been working on a mission statement draft. Jane gave out copies of this draft. All are asked to review the draft and this will be on the agenda for next week.
Andi spoke on the Paideia research paper topic planning. At the November 24th meeting pairing up will be done.
Transition for Andi’s sabbatical was discussed. Lindy will do the library instruction and be the contact person for schools. Germano will take over her Paideia part. Will decide next week on the library collection responsibilities and the internship program.
John said we have a credit from JSTOR. The Arts and Sciences VI collection is active now so our credit can go toward purchasing that. John will go ahead with this.
Germano mentioned travel should be coordinated for going to the ACRL meeting.
Jane gave the following scholarship presentation. When planning my final sabbatical before retirement, I decided it would be most useful to wrap up loose ends for initiatives which had been started but needed to be fully activated and completed. As the senior librarian equipped with the most institutional history of the Luther College Library, I thought it would be an excellent time to fully document the library’s Special Collections and Rare Books, focusing on creating biographies about especially significant donors. Because I am also the first officially appointed Supervisor of the Fine Arts Collection (FAC), a position I have held for over twenty years, I submitted the names of 40 artists from the FAC to the Getty Union List of Artist Names international database. I also accessioned and cataloged the Kemp collection of 53 pieces of Alaskana art and attended the annual conference of the American Association of Museums in Denver. In my capacity as a Paideia 1 instructor, I was able to utilize a Paideia Supplemental Sabbatical Grant to attend the Conference on College Composition and Communication in New Orleans. All of these initiatives were achieved during spring semester 2008 while I was based in Decorah.
