Mediacom fiber cut has reduced our internet capacity

At about 4PM this afternoon one of the fiber optic cables that serves Mediacom’s network in our area was cut. Mediacom is one of 3 ISP’s that provide internet service to Luther College. Since only one of our 3 internet connections is down, our connectivity to the internet has not gone down.

Unfortunately our connection to Mediacom is the biggest of our 3 internet connections. That connection being down means that our internet bandwidth is reduced to about half of its usual capacity. Because of this users may notice slower than normal internet speed.

As of 8PM, Mediacom tech support assured me that crews are working on repairs, but were unable to give me an estimated ETA for a fix.

Update As of Approximately 12:30am 11/14/08 our internet service with Mediacom has been restored, and our internet connection is functioning normally.
