LIS Deploys GoPrint to Manage Student Printing
Beginning August 13th, all Luther student printing will be managed by the GoPrint print management solution. First announced last March, GoPrint will allow LIS to better track individual usage and appropriately allocate costs in providing printing services. It is also part of our effort to help cut down on waste and encourage better use of printing on campus. Better management and stewardship of printing resources has long been a desire of LIS, and has been a requested service by students over the last several years.
Going forward, students who submit print jobs will have their jobs directed to GoPrint. The system will determine the cost based on the nature and size of the job, and inform the user of the cost to print. The user will then have the option to print the job or cancel it.
Students will be given an allowance of 400 free pages per semester (100 for J-Term). Students who exceed their allowance can use their NordiCash accounts. As a significant new enhancement, students will now be able to connect their personal computers directly to a network Luther printer and print from the comfort of their room, a study lounge, or anywhere on campus. Previously students were required to print to Luther printers from Luther computer labs.
LIS will work with academic and administrative departments this fall as we continue our roll out of GoPrint to cover all users and and printers on campus.
