Thanks to everyone who provided input to our recent survey on international studies. Based on participants’ feedback, NITLE has developed and is pleased to announce: “From Planning to Practice: Using and Assessing Technology in Teaching Language, Culture, and International Relations.” Early registration for this conference will be open until Friday, October 23, 2009. Conferees will meet virtually on November 4 (Wednesday), November 9 (Monday), and November 11 (Wednesday), with each session taking place from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Eastern / 1 – 2:30 p.m. Pacific. Conferees will use NITLE’s multipoint interactive videoconferencing environment (Elluminate) to interact and engage in extended discussion.

Call for Proposals

Interested participants are invited to submit proposals for “From Planning to Practice” by Friday, October 9, 2009. Please submit proposals for short presentations (10 – 15 minutes) at http://tinyurl.com/planning-practice.

Conference presentations will take place in one of three sessions:
Teaching Language and Culture
Service Leaning in the Teaching of Language, Culture, and International Relations
Study Abroad

Faculty members and academic support staff interested in “From Planning to Practice” may also wish to register for “Models for Collaborative Teaching in Cultural Studies: Working Across Campuses,” October 8, 2009 (4 – 5:15 p.m. Eastern / 1 – 2:15 p.m. Pacific). Early registration for this virtual event closes this Friday, September 25, 2009.

Featured presenters include John P. Turner, Assistant Professor of History at Colby College; Alfons Teipen, Professor of Religion at Furman University; and Margarete Lamb-Faffelberger, Professor of German at Lafayette College.
