LIS General Meeting for November - Special Event

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

In lieu of our normal LIS General meeting for November (next Wednesday November 4), we will meet in the Olin Round Table room to participate in a live video event from EDUCAUSE 2009 in Denver. The session will be Collaboration Is Strategy led by Brad Wheeler, the Vice President for IT, CIO and Professor at Indiana University.

His talk will begin at 9:15. Refreshments will be available in the 3rd Floor faculty lounge. The session is scheduled to run until 10:45, which is slightly beyond our normal time, but those who need to leave earlier may.

Though EDUCAUSE is principally a technology-focused conference, collaboration certainly extends far beyond the borders of technology, so the content will hopefully spur thinking about how we can better collaborate both internally as an information organization, but also how we can grow collaborative opportunities outside of LIS.

More information on the session:

As open content, “above campus” economies of scale, and cloud services shape the environment for education and research, effective collaboration becomes an essential tool for IT leaders and leading institutions. Collaboration is more than guarded partnerships or money—it requires a cohesive vision, new attitudes, principled trust, and execution to achieve valued outcomes for institutional goals. Collaborative capabilities cannot be bought; they are developed through behavior.
