McAfee Security Scan Installed w/o User Consent
Submitted by hughesma on October 28, 2009 - 8:36am
A number of users this morning are being prompted to run McAfee Security Scans on their workstations. The Technology Help Desk believes this software is being installed without users consent or being aware after visiting websites.
While McAfee is a legitimate anti-virus software, it is not used by Luther or LIS. It can be safely uninstalled. Contact the Technology Help Desk at x1000 or use the simple steps below.
Removal Instructions
- Click on Start and select Control Panel.
- Click Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features (if in Classic View).
- Click McAfee Security Scan and choose Uninstall.
Luther uses Sophos Anti-Virus and does not need to have McAfee running for any purpose. If you have any questions or issues, contact the Technology Help Desk at x1000.
