More Mediacom Cable TV Changes

We swapped vacant channels with Decorah’s Mediacom so that additional digital channels can viewed with TVs equipped with digital converters here on the campus (good for the students in the dorms). We gave them Channel 52 and they gave us Channel 42 for our use.

Reception for David Esslemont

Join us for an artist reception for David Esslemont, award-winning British artist, on Wednesday, September 30th from 3:30-5:30pm in Hovde Lounge.

Esslemont now lives in Iowa and works from his studio north of Decorah. “I am passionate about books – my aim is to make books that are not only a pleasure to read, but a delight to all the senses.”

The exhibit, “David Esslemont: Artist, Designer, Printer, Bookbinder” can be viewed on the third floor of Preus Library until October 16th.

Mott and Borlaug Podiums Upgraded

The two podium computers in Mott and Borlaug have been upgraded from Dell Optiplex GX280s to Dell Optiplex 760s. The network connections the two computers use have also been switched from wireless to wired.

“Moving Faculty to the Moodle Big Leagues with All-Star Training,” Friday, October 2, 2009, at 12 noon Eastern time/11 Central time/10 Mountain time/9 Pacific time. An online program via MIV in NITLE’s series “Special Topics for Instructional Technologists and their Colleagues”. Early registration deadline is Friday, September 18, 2009. This program is intended for instructional technologists or other staff who support Moodle use on campus.

Internet Connection Limits

We manage our internet connection with a piece of equipment called a NetEqualizer. The NetEqualizer’s job is to ensure that all of our internet users share the available bandwidth in a fair manner. One way it does this is to limit the number of simultaneous network connections that each computer can make.

  • Insight Demo – Demonstration of Faronics Insight classroom control system (http://www.faronics.com/html/Insight.asp) is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22nd at 1 p.m for faculty who use M113 and M114.
  • LIS Mixer – Reviewed plans for the October 1st gathering intended to introduce LIS student workers and staff to each other.
  • LIS Website Upgrade – Ready for testing of Drupal 6, the new version of the software running the LIS website. More information regarding the URL for testing will be forthcoming.
