IKON Agreement Announcement
Announcement
Luther College President Richard Torgerson has announced the college
will enter into a service agreement with IKON Office Solutions, Inc.
to provide campus digital output services and support.
This service agreement with IKON will begin Jan. 1, 2009. It includes
management and operation of the college’s printing and mail centers
and the supply, service, and support of copier and laser printer
infrastructure across campus.
Luther is taking this action after nearly a year of study and assessment.
This initiative will move Luther forward in designing and implementing
a strategic campus-wide program for printing and copying. Its benefits
include conserving college resources by encouraging and promoting use
of lower-cost output devices.
Luther produces nearly 1 million paper copies or prints each month on
nearly 400 independent devices ranging from production-quality copiers
to ink jet printers. To be more responsible stewards of our resources,
we must think more critically about what we print or copy and what
devices we use to create those documents.
Our new partnership with IKON will help us to do that by providing
more efficient resource use and furthering Luther’s commitment to
sustainability. With IKON’s management of Luther’s printing and mail
centers, we also expect excellent service and expanded resources to
centrally support campus print and mail services. This will help us
accomplish Luther’s core mission of educating students.
Over the coming weeks, IKON and Luther will work to place current
Luther printing and mail centers employees within the new structure of
IKON managed services on campus. Transitioning employees will become
employees of IKON with benefits comparable to those provided by
Luther. These employees will also have access to a deep pool of
professional development and training opportunities through IKON to
expand their skills and capabilities.
Luther will work with IKON to assure a smooth transition to the new
program. This will involve discussions with individual work units and
departments regarding their digital output equipment and how the new
program will affect specific devices. LIS will take the lead in
collaborating with IKON on our managed services agreement. Specific
questions about this new initiative can be directed to Karen
Martin-Schramm in the President’s Office.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we make the transition
to this new system of campus digital output services and support.
