  • Will we be receiving original or recycled toner for our HP laser printers?
    • Generally, toner will be original toner from HP. In some cases recycled toner may still be appropriate and available.
  • Will I be able to stock an extra laser toner cartridge in my office for an emergency?
    • Yes you will.
  • What will Luther’s online print shop tracking URL be?
    • Once it goes live it should be luther.ikontrac.com
  • Does the agreement with IKON cover large format printers?
    • No, it does not. Departments will continue to operate large format printers in the same way they have previously.
  • Who will I call for support with devices covered under the agreement?
    • You should contact the Print Center at the number on the device. The Help Desk will no longer be the primary point of contact for printer support.
  • What are the cost rates to my department for devices covered under the agreement?
    • Departments have four main costs when it comes to digital output: 1) the cost of the hardware; 2) the cost of the paper; 3) the cost of the toner; and 4) the cost of service. Under our IKON agreement, departments continue to carry the costs for #1 (hardware) and #2 (paper) as they have.
    • For devices under our IKON Agreement, the costs for #3 and #4 are combined into a single rate that is charged by impression made by the hardware. Here are the charges by type of output:
      • B&W Copier/Multi-Function Devices: $0.011/impression
      • B&W HP Laser Printers: $0.02/impression
      • Color Copier/Multi-Function Devices: $0.10/impression
      • Color HP Laser Printers: $0.12/impression
    • A reminder departments are expected to allocate funds currently used for inkjet printing to these costs as well.
  • I used to have materials printed on Luther’s offset press. What should I do now that it is being retired?
    • Questions regarding offset printing can be directed to the Print Shop.
  • We let students print to our departmental printers. Now we have to pay for that?
    • You have always been paying for anyone using a departmental printer through the paper and toner you provide for that device. Going forward, yes, anyone using a departmental printer will incur a charge to that department of $0.02/impression for black and white HP laser printers. LIS is currently deploying a print accounting system that will ultimately allow for better use tracking on printers to properly allocate use across multiple departments/business units, and eventually students. This system is currently being deployed and some functionality will be available in January. The full system including the student print tracking features will be available in fall 2009.
