ICN Room Operation

The ICN Room (Iowa Communications Network) contains technology to facilitate classroom-based, real-time audio and video conferencing.

During the school year, the ICN Room is regularly scheduled for classes between 8:00am – 5:00pm

General Operation

  1. Power on the ICN room. The main control switch is located under the desktop of the podium on the right side. The ICN session will start automatically at the scheduled time.
  2. Switch the video to Student video via the touch-screen panel.
  3. Volume for speakers is across from the main control switch. Adjust as necessary.
  4. Check to make certain the TVs on either side of the podium are working.
  • The VCR on the left side of the podium is used for playing videos only.
  • The computer on the left side of hte podium can be used for demonstrations or Internet use.
  • The touch-screen computer on the right side of the desk controls the ICN System. It may be controlled with either the mouse or via the touch-screen. It is capable of toggling the display modes (Student, Teacher, Overhead, VCR, Computer) and also controls the ICN session if it originates from Luther.
  • The poster hanging beneath the TV to the right will give general guidelines on using the ICN Room.
  • To record class material or broadcast on the Campus Cable system, contact the Technology Help Desk well in advance.

Uses of the ICN Room

Receiving ICN

Someone in another ICN room elsewhere will start and administer a session. They may begin with a roll-call to make certain everyone is present and ready. To talk, push and hold the button on the microphone.

Originating ICN

The remote sites will appear on the bottom half of the computer screen. The lavaliere/clip-on microphone is in a black case in the left drawer. Plug the microphone in near the speaker volume dial under the desktop to the left.

Classroom

Microphones are not available for classroom use.

TV Viewing

On the left TV, press the TV/VIDEO button until normal television is displayed. When finished, press the TV/VIDEO button until Video1 is displayed.

Broadcasting on Campus Cable System

Request setup from the Technology Help Desk well in advance.

Shutting Down

  • When the session is finished, power off the room at the main control switch. Notify the Help Desk you are finished and they will put away the rest of the equipment.
