Topic: Discussion of “The Lyncher in Me,” Warren Read’s provocative memoir about his family’s participation in the 1920 Duluth lynching.

This reading group will bring together faculty, staff and students interested in exploring contemporary race relations by investigating the history and legacy of lynching in the United States.

Norse Apps in the Classroom

This LIS training shares tips and tricks for using the Norse Apps suite in the classroom, including the following:

  • Display your office hours and class schedule online (Norse Calendar)
  • Gather input from your students using a web form with the data automatically going into a spreadsheet for you (Norse Docs)
  • Encourage group projects in which students can edit documents together, even at the same time (Norse Docs)
  • Create a presentation and give it anywhere, regardless of platform (Mac/PC) or softwa

Atomic Learning & Other Tools

This session will showcase Atomic Learning and will also highlight other tools found on the LIS and Help Desk websites to help you and your students in or out of the classroom.

Atomic Learning delivers a library of short, easy-to-view-and-understand tutorial movies that can be used as an integral part of a professional development program, a valuable curriculum supplement and an anytime/anywhere software training resource. The collection answers common questions people have when learning and using software.

Multimedia Lab Pilot

Learn about the pilot multimedia lab that has been set up in the Library near the LIS Technology Help Desk to enhance user experience of video editing, copying, and conversion.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Research and the Classroom

An introduction to mapping using ArcGIS Desktop and Google Earth. Learn how to generate maps using your own data and explore the wealth of geographic data sets available on the Web, from historical voyage tracks, to modern demographic data, epidemiology, climate trends, and more.

Oracle/Norse Calendar for Development

Facilitator: Diane Gossman
Location: Olin 301 – Round Table Room

The Norse Calendar is now the primary campus calendar (replacing Oracle Calendar) as of Jan. 1, 2009. This is a campus-wide calendar (available to all faculty, staff, and students) so the more who use the calendar, the more useful it is for the Luther community.

LIS cannot transfer information from Oracle Calendar into Norse Calendar. However, it is possible for you to export your Oracle Calendar meetings for historical purposes.
