Teaching Discussion: Thinking Through Paideia II

As a result of the revisions to the all-college requirements adopted by the faculty in 2005, Paideia II has undergone significant changes. Most significant among the changes is the addition of two alternative ways of fulfilling the Paideia II general education requirement. In addition to the traditional team-taught Paideia II course, faculty may now offer (1) an interdisciplinary cluster of two paired courses or (2) a specially designed sequence of two courses.

Synopsis of “The Lyncher in Me”
In June 1920, in Duluth, Minnesota, a mob of over 10,000 descended upon the police station, inflamed by the rumor that black circus workers had raped a white teenage girl. Three black men were dragged from their cells and lynched in front of the cheering crowd.

Norse Apps in the Classroom

This LIS training shares tips and tricks for using the Norse Apps suite in the classroom, including the following:

  • Display your office hours and class schedule online (Norse Calendar)
  • Gather input from your students using a web form with the data automatically going into a spreadsheet for you (Norse Docs)
  • Encourage group projects in which students can edit documents together, even at the same time (Norse Docs)
  • Create a presentation and give it anywhere, regardless of platform (Mac/PC) or softwa

Atomic Learning & Other Tools

This session will showcase Atomic Learning and will also highlight other tools found on the LIS and Help Desk websites to help you and your students in or out of the classroom.

Atomic Learning delivers a library of short, easy-to-view-and-understand tutorial movies that can be used as an integral part of a professional development program, a valuable curriculum supplement and an anytime/anywhere software training resource. The collection answers common questions people have when learning and using software.

Multimedia Lab Pilot

Learn about the pilot multimedia lab that has been set up in the Library near the LIS Technology Help Desk to enhance user experience of video editing, copying, and conversion.

Teaching and Technology sessions highlight internet resources and software with potential as pedagogical tools. Each session features one or two faculty members who demonstrate how they have used a particular resource in their teaching. Though designed with faculty in mind, these sessions are open to all.

Teaching Discussion: Planning and Teaching a First-Year Seminar

The Oneota Project: Sustainability Across the Curriculum (part 2)

This two-part workshop focuses on ways to incorporate a sense of place and sustainability, broadly defined, into courses in all disciplines. The goal is for each participant to examine a course that he/she teaches or wants to teach and revise a syllabus, or make plans to revise a syllabus, in order to incorporate sustainability in some way.
