The Help Desk website has moved

Today, Tuesday, June 9, the Technology Help Desk website moved to a new home at http://lis.luther.edu/helpdesk. It is also available by going to http://lis.luther.edu and clicking on the “Technology Help” tab in the upper right corner. The new site has been streamlined to include a rolodex of technology articles and a technology service catalog to provide better information and support to the Luther community. Contact the Help Desk at or 387-1000 with questions or comments.

Print/Copy Update

  • The Publications copier/printer has arrived and was installed last week. Training also took place last week. For the time being, they will keep their HP5100 printer.
  • The Counseling Services copier/printer arrived last week. Installation and training will occur prior to the start of the fall semester.
  • An HP Laserjet Printer was installed in Jenson to provide workgroup printing for faculty on the main floor. Drivers for the new printer are being installed as part of the faculty roll for Music faculty which began Monday, June 8th and ends Friday, June 26th.

Olin Computer Upgrades

Over the course of the summer, several spaces in Olin will be upgraded. New Dell 760 workstations with 19” LCD monitors will be installed in the following locations: O205, O213, O320, and O336. All Windows podiums will also be upgraded to Dell 760’s with 19” LCDs. In addition, O201 and O206 will be upgraded to Dell GX280s.

CFA 118 Mac Lab

This summer, User Services will be upgrading the CFA 118 Mac Lab to contain 8 20” iMacs, 8 Mac Pro towers with 19” LCDs, and 1 Mac Pro tower editing station with two 24” screens.

Microsoft Office for your Home Computer - Only $9.95

Want Microsoft Office on your home computer? The Home Use Program (HUP) allows Luther employees to install Microsoft Office on one home computer for use for personal and/or work purposes while employed at Luther. The cost of the program was recently reduced so you only pay $9.95 when ordering online. Visio Professional and Project Standard are now available as well. See http://lis.luther.edu/services/HUP.   • Registration Video – Viewed the video Lynnette and Marcia are producing for registration and provided feedback. New students will be viewing the video and logging in to my.luther.edu 30 minutes prior to registering for their courses during summer registration which is held June 11, 12, 16, and 17.
  • Registration – Lynnette will be in the RTR, Matt H and Matt B will be in the Union, and Matt H and Chris B will be presenting intro to LIS sessions.

  • Classroom Technology Guides – Rebecca gave a show and tell of work done this spring to create cheatsheets illustrating how to use the technology in those spaces. The guides will be placed in the classrooms and will also be made available on the lis website.
  • Images – Larry has the new PC faculty/staff image ready for testing; please visit the Help Desk or Main 11A this week to provide feedback.

The “Caf” can now broadcast KWLC in the dining area due to an upgrade to the equipment. Commencement to football games can be heard over the dining room speakers.
