Print/Copy Update

LIS and IKON working together with various departments on campus have made the following print/copy changes on campus this January:

  • Brunsdale Lounge laser printer was replaced.
  • Counseling Services now has a networked laser printer.
  • Ockham House laser printer was replaced.
  • Olin workroom copier was replaced. Printing, faxing and scanning are not yet configured.
  • Student Life copier was replaced. Printing, faxing and scanning are not yet configured; the laser printer will be replaced when printing is configured on this copier.
  • Education Office copier was replaced.

Print/Copy Equipment List

The list of printers and copiers maintained by IKON and updated in collaboration with Laurel is available for LIS Staff on the lis share at \\admin1\lis\printing\IKON Equipment List. This list also includes some of the fax machines and scanners on campus. Also on this share are maps of buildings for the campus that contain code numbers corresponding to the codes on the listing so we are able to pinpoint where each device is located.

As this list is updated, new versions will be placed on the lis share.

Valders Remodel Update for J-Term 2009

The Valders Remodel for the East Wing is nearing completion. I have a crew of contractors presently installing the new Classroom Technologies in the East Wing. They should be finished by Friday Evening.

Valders 377 GIS Computer Lab has been installed.

The Valders 377 GIS Computer Lab has been installed. It has 14 computers for the spring semester. A desire for more and much better machines for the fall semester has been requested by the Environmental Studies Department.

Valders 212 Computer Lab has been Removed

The Valders 212 Psychology Computer Lab has been removed and will re-appear as the Valders 350 Psychology Computer Lab after the West Wing is finished with being remodeled.

User Services Meeting - 1/27/09

Sophos – All faculty, staff, and students are strongly encouraged to ensure sophos is protecting their computer; an all-campus email sent yesterday with the details. Numerous virus problems have been brought to the attention of the Help Desk and it continues to consume a lot of time. Also, students are calling with problems getting their sophos anti-virus to function properly.

Oracle Calendar is Going Away

Oracle Calendar will not be available after Friday, Feb. 6. If you want your Oracle Calendar meeting information exported, either for historical purposes or to load into your Norse Calendar, you must export it yourself before that date. Come to the Olin RTR on Thursday, Feb 5th at 1:30 for assistance, contact the LIS Technology Help Desk, or export on your own using http://helpdesk.luther.edu/go/norsecal.

Norse Calendar Link Added to Luther Website

When you go to www.luther.edu and click on the FACULTY/STAFF/STUDENTS link in the top right corner of the page, you will find that a new link has been added for Norse Calendar. The link for Norse Mail was added previously. In addition, the Webmail and Oracle Calendar links have been removed.

Similar changes have been made on the Help Desk and LIS websites.

Luther's New Calendar System

The Norse Calendar is now the primary campus calendar. This is a campus-wide calendar so the more who use the calendar, the more useful it is for the Luther community. LIS cannot transfer information from Oracle Calendar into Norse Calendar, however, you can export your Oracle Calendar information if you want. Attend an upcoming workshop or export on your own.
