Recent reports of slow Datatel performance

LIS has received several reports in recent weeks from users of the Datatel system performing slower than normal. Other Datatel clients have reported the problem to Datatel on AnswerNet and on the Datatel forums. We believe the issues are from infrastructure changes that Datatel is making in preparation for the next version (4.0) of the Datatel User Interface. There has not been any indication that Datatel will put resources into resolving the performance issues on our current version, Datatel UI 2.3.

Need to Reset Your Passwords?

As a new academic year begins and students and faculty return to campus, LIS would like to remind you of two useful tools to reset your passwords. Your NorseKey and Datatel passwords expire every 180 days. You can reset them yourself using the following tools.

On NorseKey.luther.edu you will be asked to set your security questions if you have not already completed them to authenticate yourself so that you can use the “Forgot My NorseKey” option to reset your NorseKey.

Luther will use CommonApp for 2010 online admissions application

Applications are already being received for the 2010 academic year from students using CommonApp.org Luther College will be using the Common Application online for next year’s class. Ben Wilbur and Cindy Goede created the import process for Admissions staff to process files from CommonApp.org and update the information into the Colleague Admissions system. Luther College will start admitting students on September 1st.

Colleague Studio: Programming Fundamentals Training

I spent last week in Chicago at Saint Xavier University for Datatel training. I took part in “Colleague Studio: Programming Fundamentals.” During the course of the week I worked through the creation of a User Interface (UI) form in Colleague Studio. I created my own custom entity for use with my UI form. The instructor of the course also offered two extra sessions before class two of the days. During these extra sessions I was shown the basics of web form creation and computed column creation using Colleague Studio.

Launch of new Admissions Site and Homepage in Reason

Yesterday we moved the Luther Homepage and Admissions site into our new CMS (content management system), Reason. Beyond a new design, the admissions site contains new content created by Derek Hartl, Kristin Bjerke, and Julie Chamberlain. The admissions pages were designed by The Lawlor Group out of Eden Prairie, MN.

This has been a joint project between publications and LIS.

New! Update My Profile on My.Luther

We’ve added a new sub-menu called “User Profile”. This sub-menu contains two items for students to view their demographic/academic profile and to update their emergency contact information, the new federal ethnicity questions, and off-campus address for students not living on campus.

We will also be implementing one more change that will re-direct students to this profile update screen every four months. This change should be made within the next couple of days. Thanks goes to Jean and Lucas for their work on this!
