Fine Arts Collection closed for construction

The server that hosts the Fine Arts searchable collection is unexpectedly down. LIS was in the process of moving the collection database and website to a new collection management and publishing system. Instead of investing time into reconstructing the Fine Arts Collection in it’s old format, the current Fine Arts Collection will remain unavailable until the new website and content is brought online later this year.

Outage of several websites

The following websites are currently down:

  • apc.luther.edu
  • geobase.luther.edu
  • finearts.luther.edu

Upgrade of Katie Software 2013SP and Morsle

WHAT CHANGES INSTRUCTORS SHOULD EXPECT

  1. Navigation changes: A lot of familiar links have been moved around to different areas so some confusion should be expected initially
  2. Conversion of Old Courses: There have been reported difficulties in getting an older style of course to convert to the newer style without some loss of functionality. Sometimes this means a loss of block or activity functionality and sometimes it means actual loss of material information pertinent to the course record of activity.

VPN difficulties

Recent versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome have made some security enhancements to the way that connections to https (secure) websites are handled. This enhancement, good overall, causes issues when users attempt to connect to https://vpn.luther.edu . Only web access is affected, and users of the fortissl vpn client are not affected.

The solution to this problem is for us to move to a newer version of the operating system that our vpn runs. Unfortunately we’re having some issues making the newest OS work in the way we want it to.
