Application Development

Office 2007 and Alumni

Alumni will be the second department to move to Office 2007. Monday, March 10th a conversation will be held in which we discuss the process and give a "sneak peek" of Office 2007. The next step will then be for App Dev to scan their files to look for conversion issues and help migrate files, just as was done with Development. Then, Office 2007 training will be held for Alumni in the Olin RTR. After the scanning and training, a computer upgrade conversation will be held and we will begin providing computers with Office 2007 (and not Office 2000) to Alumni.

CBORD is pleased to announce our acquisition by Roper Industries, Inc. As an investor in CBORD and as a long-term “CBORDian” (as we like to call ourselves), I have a great deal of personal pride in CBORD’s growth and development. I view this new partnership with Roper as a very positive development for all our current and future customers.

Colleague Development Studio beta testing

Debbie Smith and I have been participating in a beta test for a new software development product from Datatel. The product is called Colleague Studio and is based on the Eclipse software development program. Eclipse is an open source development framework. Datatel has added its own development "perspective" to Eclipse to handle special tasks that need to occur for Datatel software development.

Leave Plan Summary screen available on My Luther

We have released the Leave Plan Summary screen on the my.luther.edu web site. All permanent (but not temporary) employees can log in to the web site using their NorseKey. Employees can view the balance of their vacation, sick and/or personal days remaining. The leave plans for personal days for administrative staff have not been added in Datatel yet, but HR will be adding those in the near future.

Document Imaging Webinars

Folks from LIS and Advancement took part in two presentations from vendors this week looking at solutions for document imaging and management. These systems would allow electronic storage, indexing and retrieval of all sorts of business documents, both those that have been digitized from paper or those born digital. The systems we looked at both interface with our Datatel system to allow documents to be attached to records in that system.
