Internet Connection Limits

We manage our internet connection with a piece of equipment called a NetEqualizer. The NetEqualizer’s job is to ensure that all of our internet users share the available bandwidth in a fair manner. One way it does this is to limit the number of simultaneous network connections that each computer can make.

Wireless Network Maintenance during regular LIS Maintenance window 9/17/09

I am planning to do some maintenance work on part of our wireless network from 5AM until 7AM on 9/17/09. The wireless network covering Ylvisaker, Norby House, Main, Library, Sampson, and Valders will be unavailable during this time.

Need to Reset Your Passwords?

As a new academic year begins and students and faculty return to campus, LIS would like to remind you of two useful tools to reset your passwords. Your NorseKey and Datatel passwords expire every 180 days. You can reset them yourself using the following tools.

On NorseKey.luther.edu you will be asked to set your security questions if you have not already completed them to authenticate yourself so that you can use the “Forgot My NorseKey” option to reset your NorseKey.

Sophos Version 7.0 for Macs

Sophos for Mac has been upgraded from 4.9 to 7.0 on sophos.luther.edu. We have updated the website with new links.
This update will be installed automatically. The shield will turn from blue to black when the update is complete.

Sophos 7.0 is for Mac OSX 10.4 and newer. Older versions are no longer supported.

Sophos for Windows is not affected by this update.

Ylvisaker Wireless

This summer we’ve replaced the 5 wireless access points that had previously been providing limited wireless network coverage in Ylvisaker with 32 new wireless access points. This upgrade provides full wireless network coverage in all of Ylvisaker.

Academic File Sever Upgrade

Academic.luther.edu will move to new hardware this weekend. The server will be taken down at 5:00 PM Friday, August 7th and should be available sometime Saturday evening. Access to files will not be possible during this time.

Library wireless network upgrade

The wireless network in the library has been upgraded with newer access points.

Gigabit network for Olin Labs

The network in the Olin computer labs and the Round Table Room has been upgraded to new switches which provide gigabit (1000 Mbit/s) network connections.
