Sophos Enterprise Console Implementation for Faculty

On Friday, February 20th LIS configured Sophos Enterprise Console to monitor all Campus Workstations Sophos status. This will give LIS the capability to keep our Network free from Viruses and Trojans. The Sophos Enterprise Console will give us a new Tool for Network Virus Protection.
On Monday, March 17 LIS included all Faculty Workstations by a Sophos batch file being run on Faculty computers at login time. This will not affect Macs at this time.

Norby House Network now Requires Registration for Access

I have completed configuration of the network switch in Norby House to require that all computers connecting to it are registered before they are allowed to access the network.

To increase network security, our plan is to eventually have our entire network configured this way. The wireless network, all of ResNet, and most other Academic/Admin buildings are also already configured to require registration.

Also as part of this change computers in Norby House will now receive IP addresses in a different range.

New URL for vpn

This morning I’ve made a change to the configuration of our VPN Service. In the long run this change will make the service easier for all to use, but current users will need to access the service using a new URL. From now on you may access the vpn at https://vpn.luther.edu. Other than this easier to remember URL, no other changes have been made to the interface.

This service can be used to access your Luther College network shares and files from off-campus through your web browser.

See the VPN Training documentation found at http://lis.luther.edu/learn/vpn for more information.
