Sophos Enterprise Console Implementation

On Friday, February 20th LIS configured Sophos Enterprise Console to monitor all Campus Workstations Sophos status. This will give LIS the capability to keep our Network free from Viruses and Trojans. The Sophos Enterprise Console will give us a new Tool for Network Virus Protection.

Internet Slowness

We are currently experiencing some routing issues that are causing us to make use of our internet connections in a way that is not at all optimal. Though our internet connectivity remains up, users may notice slowness when accessing sites on the internet. I have been working with ICN technicians to figure out the cause of the problem and solve it.

Update Internet service is now back to normal.

Admin1 Server Available - Save Often

The Admin1 network server (admin1.luther.edu) is currently experiencing troubles and may be inaccessible for some users. LIS is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Network Switch servicing Olin 202 Lab upgraded

The network switch servicing the Olin 202 computer lab has been upgraded to a newer switch.

Off campus access helpdesk.luther.edu is now available through our proxy server only.

We have blocked direct access to the Help Desk website from off campus. Attempts to access the site from off campus will redirect the user to the proxy server login page. Upon authenticating with their Norse Key, off campus users will be able to access the helpdesk website.

Additional Servers Getting Update Patches Friday Night for Virus Protection

LIS is doing maintenance on additional Microsoft Servers installing Update Patches after Midnight. This is due to the immediate importance of protecting our Network against the Conficker virus.

New Conficker Virus requires Server Update Patches for Protection

LIS is doing Microsoft Server Maintenance tonight, but not on the Linux Servers. We normally do maintenance on Thursdays, but due to its immediate importance of protecting our Network and Servers againt the new threatening virus, Conficker.

Facilities Network Maintenance Jan 17th

LIS is performing network maintenance for approximately 2 hours on Saturday at noon. This will be affecting Norby House, Occam House, Storre Theatre, Heating Plant, and Facilities Bldg. We are replacing a bad fan assembly in a main switch in Facilities wiring closet.

At GusDay 2009 I attended 4 sessions: “Single Sign On with Shibboleth and Federated logins with InCommon”, “Modular Macintosh Imaging”, “Macalester’s Emergency Email Migration”, and “Macintosh Autientication and Application Deployment on Faculty/Staff Desktops”.

This session was presented by Gustavus College and talked about the Shibboleth Single Sign On system that they have implemented. Shibboleth implements the SAML protocol.
