Art Travels Internationally

The 20 drawings and 15 pieces of pottery by Marguerite Wildenhain which were exhibited at the Gera Art Museum in Gera, Germany, this past summer were returned to campus this past week. The crates were successfully scrutinized by Homeland Security and returned with all pieces unscathed. Nine paintings by Norwegian-American artists in the Fine Arts Collection are being prepared for shipment to the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway. The new U.S. ambassador to Norway, Barry White, and the curator for the Art in Embassies Program from the U.S.

The agenda for Scottie Cochrane’s visit, October 13th and 14th, is posted on the blog.

Chris reported on a meeting regarding the new faculty offices in the former Help Desk area. He will report later as more information is obtained and plans move forward.

All reported on visits they had had with department heads regarding senior paper/projects.

John gave out a handout titled “Annual Reviews 2010 Institutional Pricing”. Reviewed the usage of all for the past 2 years.

Germano and Lindy presented their new language for Reference Services in the Emergency Response Planning document.

John presented the final decisions reached with the department liaisons regarding the print duplication/cancellation project for group approval.

Loyal Rue came at the beginning of the meeting and spoke on the Film and Visual Media Studies minor proposal. He addressed concerns and sought support from LIS. Discussion followed after he left with the decision Jane would send a written note supporting this.

Andi led discussion on the senior paper/project and library instruction.

Jane handed out the lost book lists to each pertaining to their departments for review as to either reorder or withdraw. Would like to have this resolved by the end of September.

Ryan spoke on the CLOCKSS journal archive. He recommended we join. All agreed to go ahead with this on a trial basis.

Germano handed out the sheet listing the CHOICE reference titles for consideration for purchasing.

Jane reported on the grade analysis from Dean Craft.

John spoke on the print periodical reviews. Asked all to participate in this. He is creating a database. Would like to have this completed by fall break.

LIBRARY PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEETING

Present: Chris, Andi, Ryan, John, Jane, Lindy, Germano, Rebecca, Rachel.

All agreed to the 9:15-10:30 a.m. time on Mondays for the professional staff meetings.

All gave a summary of summer registration, advising, professional workshops attended, etc., each had participated in over the summer.

Germano spoke on the Reference/Help Desk schedule. All need to sign up for Reference shifts. This can be done on the Google calendar. There will be no reference students at the desk this year.

Book Jacket Exhibit

An exhibit of over 100 book jackets for new art and theatre/dance books has been installed in the Gregerson Gallery in the Center for the Arts. The exhibit includes titles from a recent initiative to collect books focusing on contemporary artists who have been judged by experts to have enduring significance.
