Electronic Delivery of Interlibrary Loan Articles

The Interlibrary Loan department is now providing most article requests to patrons through electronic desktop delivery rather than sending print copies via Campus Mail or holding them for patrons to pick up at the Circulation Desk. Ryan Gjerde implemented Odyssey, the electronic delivery component of our ILLiad management software, for borrowing this week. Odyssey lending is on the horizon, once we feel comfortable using Odyssey for borrowing.

OCLC/ILL system problem and lost ILL requests

OCLC Resource Sharing, the system that receives and fulfills the ILL requests we receive through our ILLiad interface, has experienced serious problems since “upgrading” their system on Feb. 1. Many requests have been directed to the wrong libraries and many libraries have received items they did not request.

So far, we at Luther have not detected either of these problems and we will be checking every February request for possible errors. However, if you placed an ILL request with us via ILLiad sometime after Feb.

Crawl-Space in Library

An e-mail message from Jackie Wilkie to all Paideia I students and faculty sent 2-11-09:
The Library staff have created a replica of the crawl space Harriet Jacobs describes in her narrative, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. They have generously offered to allow students to come and visit this structure as long as there is no class in the room. The structure is in the Hovde lounge in the library. SO if you are walking by the library take a minute or two and stop by Hovde to see the space they created.
