LIBRARY PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEETING

December 15, 2008, 9:00 a.m., Hovde

Present: Chris, Andi, Ryan, John, Jane, Lindy, Germano, Rebecca, Rachel.

Germano gave out a handout regarding the interim report on the Reference Reduction Project, Fall 2008. Will keep going with this project during January.

Rebecca presented five periodicals, which had been requested. Three of these we will subscribe to and two she will bring back to another meeting after obtaining more information.

Germano has the Reference Desk J-Term schedule calendar. He will route this for signing up. Return this to Germano by December 12th.

Jane led discussion in reviewing the draft of the revised “Library & Information Studies Department Scholarship Statement”. The fifth section is being worked on.

Books for Africa

A box of books focusing on ESL instruction has been sent by the library to Bookfriends, International, the foundation which ships books to secondary schools in East Africa. Steve and Pauli Kutschat (Luther alumna) are the founders of the initiative. Their goal is to raise funds to ship books to a number of secondary schools, concentrating on those in Tanzania.

Present: Chris, Andi, Ryan, John, Jane, Lindy, Germano, Rebecca, Rachel.

Rebecca announced the dates for the workshops for Paideia faculty during J-term. They are January 13th, 15th, and 20th from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Round Table Room. Discussed what would be covered at these workshops.

Jane reviewed and led the discussion on the “Template for Department Self-study”.

Jane led discussion of draft #8 for the wording for the new mission statement. All agreed to the wording of this draft.

Germano presented reference titles for evaluation. Decisions were made as to whether to purchase or not.

Andi had a handout listing the spring 2009 Paideia sections.

LIBRARY PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEETING

Present: Chris, Andi, Ryan, John, Jane, Lindy, Germano, Rebecca, Rachel.

Jane led further discussion of internship questions. Andi will do the language for 380 and 381 for the catalog before her sabbatical begins.

Reviewed the draft of the mission statement. Look this over and bring to the meeting next week.

Librarians volunteered to assume Andi’s various duties while she is on sabbatical. Jane will send out a listing.

Jane led discussion on the 295 directed study description.

JSTOR Arts & Sciences VI Collection now available

Luther College now has access to the content of journals included in JSTOR’s Arts & Sciences VI Collection.

“With a minimum of one hundred twenty (120) titles, the Arts & Sciences VI Collection will extend JSTOR’s coverage in disciplines across the social sciences, with clusters focused in economics, education, linguistics, political science, and area studies.”

Here is a list of the new titles currently available (http://www.jstor.org/action/showJournals?browseType=collectionInfoPage&s...), more will be added during 2009-2010.

LIBRARY PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEETING

Present: Chris, Andi, Ryan, John, Jane, Lindy, Germano, Rebecca, Rachel.

Continued discussion from last week pertaining to internship questions. Will revisit this again at a later meeting.

Ryan has done more work on the tutorial on the Washington site. This works well for us. Will go ahead with this model.

The subcommittee has been working on a mission statement draft. Jane gave out copies of this draft.
