@lutherlis - Follow LIS on Twitter

For Twitter aficionados, LIS has activated an organizational account at @lutherlis that will post short, timely notices on news and events from LIS. As this account is new, it will likely take us some time to settle in to how to use it, and we’ll consider it experimental for the time being. We’ll run a block containing the Twitter feed on our blog page, so content appearing in both streams will be centrally located.

The LIS Blog will remain the primary announcement tool, and there are no changes in what content is appropriate for publishing there.

Eaglecam Restrictions Imposed

We have apparently been able to limit incoming traffic to the Eaglecam to only those connections originating from the official link: http://www.luther.edu/eaglecam. Since numerous urls were posted and harvested by Google there are a lot of rejections occurring at the Streaming Server which should continue until those interested get directed to Luther’s gateway to the popular site.

Dorm Labs Idle Shutdown Time Reduced to 60 Minutes

Lab computers in the dorms across campus will now shutdown after 60 minutes of being of idle rather than the 180 minute wait that is applied to all other lab workstations. This change was made in collaboration with the Environmental Concerns Organization (ECO) and Luther College Sustainability and was set in motion by February being Energy Evolution month. ECO created signage that has been placed in the dorm labs to notify users of the change and the environmental impact such an adjustment can have. Below is a copy of the sign hung in the dorm labs.

Library Renovations Update

Facilities has indicated work may begin in the old help desk area (adjacent to Hovde) as early as the end of next week – February 4th. This 6-8 week project will convert the old help desk area into LIS office spaces.

In preparation, the desks and other items in that space are being moved to Library 107 which will be Lynnette’s office and help desk storage during the renovation. Hovde will be used for classes as scheduled since Facilities has graciously agreed not to do any drilling or noisy construction during those times.
