LIS and Reason Support + Recruitment

With our current deployment of Reason as our new campus web content management system, Luther and LIS are working to realign staffing support to ensure a high quality of service to the product currently and going forward in the future. I’m pleased to announce that Steve Smith, Web Programmer/Analyst in LIS will be transitioning into the role of our primary Reason developer and coordinator this spring. He will also retain support of some web-based services for which he currently provides support.

Sophos Enterprise Console Implementation

On Friday, February 20th LIS configured Sophos Enterprise Console to monitor all Campus Workstations Sophos status. This will give LIS the capability to keep our Network free from Viruses and Trojans. The Sophos Enterprise Console will give us a new Tool for Network Virus Protection.

Luther Convocation - February 5

All LIS staff are encouraged to attend the Opening Convocation for Luther’s spring semester next Thursday, February 5th at 9:40a in the CFL.

Diane E. Griffin, an internationally recognized expert in the field of virology and immunology, will speak on “A Global Approach to Infectious Diseases.” Spirit of Luther awards will be given to Phil and Ruth Reitan and Orv and Kathy Johnson.

Ithaka and JSTOR Merge

Ithaka, a non-profit organization promoting innovation in education and scholarly resources (and incubator for NITLE as well as Portico) has announced it is merging with JSTOR, another Mellon-funded initiative. The new combined organization, which will include JSTOR, Portico, and NITLE will be known as Ithaka.

Gallery Podcast on iTunes U

The gallery talk of artist Marcia Wegman is now available as a podcast at http://itunes.luther.edu/. iTunes U is a free service that offers easy access to educational content from hundreds of colleges and universities. The podcast captures the artist’s reflections on her exhibit of Iowa landscapes, on display in Preus Library until Dec. 12. For those who do not have access to an MP3 player, the podcast can also be checked out at the library Circulation Desk for use while viewing the exhibit.
