Service Interruptions

The Alumni office is sending the final notice to Alumni with a full email account and Alumni that use email forwarding encouraging them to create a NorseMail account to continue using their @luther.edu email address beyond November 15th. Accounts for Alumni that do not move their email forwarding and email to NorseApps will be disabled this weekend.

EBSCO announces that all of their servers (and the databases we use from EBSCO) will be down for scheduled maintenance tonight, Nov. 7, from 10-10:30 p.m., Central time.

Student registration starts November 5th and continues on the following schedule. Use Internet Explorer if possible.

LDAP will be down for maintenance starting at 11:10 today. Total downtime should not exceed 15 minutes. Many Norse Key based services will be unavailable during this time.

The wireless network in Main and Sampson was down for a few minutes this morning. The controller for this part of the network crashed unexpectedly this morning. It has now been rebooted and is working just fine. I will be looking into what can be done to keep this working in a more stable fashion in the future.

At approximately 3:30 PM an OpenLDAP database corruption issue made it necessary to re-import all user data from a backup file. The data was restored and LDAP was back online by 3:54 PM. This outage caused login failures on many Norse Key based systems.

CBORD has completed the server side upgrades. I have installed PCS and HMS on most of the machines that need it except two, which should be done soon. Micros in dining service is connecting to Odyssey, and the Bookshop is back online.

At 5PM today, books.luther.edu and encore.luther.edu will be down while maintenance is performed on the books server. Work is planned to be completed before 7PM.

Facilities is planning to turn the power off in Valders all day on Monday 10/20/08. Because our network equipment will have no power, the network in Valders will be down for as long as the power is off.

During tomorrow’s regularily scheduled maintenance window, I’m planning to move the library network to new IP Addresses. This change has already been completed for the Library computer lab,

I’ll start my work around 6AM and will be done before the library opens. Users should notice no change other than that their machine has a different IP address. There is a small chance that some computers will need to be rebooted to receive a new ip address.
