Service Interruptions

On Monday Oct 20th LIS will be upgrading the CBORD Odyssey PCS and HMS system. This is a necessary update to provide compatibility with Windows Vista. They are some new tools in PCS and HMS, most notably a way to send a report to email.

The system will likely be down between half a day (ideally) to the full day. We will let you know via blog when the process is complete. A member of LIS will stop by and upgrade users of PCS and/or HMS.

The books.luther.edu server is back in service. The library catalog, Magnus, and Encore should be functioning normally. (message added by goodinjo at 4:10)

During this week’s maintenance window, routine OS patches will be applied to illiad.luther.edu. This will likely result in brief downtime of the server, which provides access to interlibrary loan functionality for the library. Access will return by the end of weekly maintenance window.

The library catalog server, books.luther.edu, will be rebooted on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 am, during the weekly maintenance window.

The ldap.luther.edu server suffered a hardware failure at approximately 9:00 AM. Spare hardware was put in place and service was restored by 9:33 AM. Many services using Norse Key authentication were unavailable during the outage.

An additional outage was required from 10:30 – 10:45 to fix a data corruption issue caused by the hardware failure.

KATIE will be down for maintenance during the normal system maintenance window overnight.

The Datatel system will not be available from midnight until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17th. After the nightly backup, Financial Services will be running the year-end processes that require a quiet system. My.luther, Safari, Colleague, and Benefactor will not be available during this time.

A message will be sent to the Datatel User listserv when the financial work is completed.

KATIE Unavailable during normal maintenance window

Users are experiencing trouble this morning when trying to access Norse Mail through the usual http://mail.luther.edu URL. I will be contacting Google to make sure they’re aware of this problem and working to fix it. Until it is fixed, using this alternate URL is a workaround http://mail.google.com/a/luther.edu

Update: We believe this issue is now resolved.

Facilities is planning a power outage in Olin Hall on Monday, August 25th from 12:30 p.m.. – 5:00 p.m.. Network in the Library has traditionally been dependent on the network in Olin being up. This is now only partially true. The wireless network, and wired computers that have IP addresses that start with 10 (mostly only the lab, I think) will continue to work.
