If you’ve walked through the CFA in the last few days, you may have noticed the below scene, and thought it seemed vaguely familiar. That is because it is a 1:1 replica of a study area from the main floor of Preus Library. Ben Moore explains more after the break.

_The installation is an assignment inspired by our new sculpture hire Joe Madrigal (starts in Fall 2013).

Starting this morning, LIS will be pushing a patch for the Bradford Persistent Agent to Luther-owned Windows computers. This patch will address error notifications that some users have experienced in the last couple of weeks, as well as getting all users up to the most current version of the software.

This process will run completely in the background and therefore should not be noticed by users. If you have any questions, please call the LIS Technology Help Desk at x1000.

Headline of the Week: Teaching What You Are Just Learning

One upside of attending conferences is that there is a lot of time involved in travelling which can provide opportunity for reading and studying. The American Airlines shutdown on Tuesday provided even more!

This week I read an interesting book called, “Teaching What You Don’t Know”. It is a book written by a person in a faculty development position.

• Welcome to Carsten – Carsten Earl began in LIS as Help Desk Lead on Monday, April 15.
• LIS Student Worker Google Group – Jennifer and Jennifer proposed the idea of having a Google Group for all of the LIS student workers, to keep them informed of LIS happenings and upcoming events. LIS students may subscribe to the LIS Blog and are receiving information that way currently.

The wireless network (SSID) called LCWireless5G has been available in Miller and Dieseth since December. Starting today, we are expanding the availability of this SSID to everywhere that our wireless network supports the 5Ghz frequency.

If your computer or device is able to see LCWireless5G, LIS requests that you connect to it instead of LCWireless.

LCWireless5G is part of our effort to improve performance on Luther’s wireless network. WifFi standards specify two radio frequencies that can be used – 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

UPDATE: 1:30PM All Norse Apps and other Google services are available and functioning.

UPDATE: 8:44AM We are receiving numerous reports of people being able to login to Google services. We are still monitoring Google and will pull down this alert when we know there is no issue. Users can monitor the Google Apps Status Dashboard for current information from Google.

7:30AM We have received numerous calls this morning about Norse Apps and other Google services being unavailable.

8:30AM This morning many college owned computers are receiving an error message that says “The computer name in the certificate bradfordnetworks.com, does not match the name of the target computer cmrc.internal.luther.edu. Unable to connect.” The message can be safely ignored for now. We are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

Headline of the Week: Change to What?

Very early in my career IBM began holding department and area meetings on “change.” Information was presented about how the status quo was unsustainable. Statistics and evidence were presented to help staff understand the dynamics of the environment and the nature of competition. These meetings were generally effective at getting some folks fired up and motivated to be part of “change.”

Usually there was a second part that focused specifically on the nature of change itself and the nature of people as they consider change. Change is hard.

Attention literature lovers, today marks the concluding day of the March Book Madness competition with Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby facing off against Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

Voting was originally scheduled to conclude this morning at 8 a.m., however, we were left with a tie! So, I am extending voting until 5 p.m. today to see if the Luther community can break the gridlock.
