Headline of the Week: No Class Time Is Just the Beginning of What Is Missing

Many have been following the developments of MOOCs (massive open online courses) and the firms that provide the platform to offer them (eg. Coursera, Udacity). The idea has us thinking about the course effectiveness, the business models of the firms that are being built to offer them and how students will leverage them with regard to the issue of college credit.

The University of Wisconsin has announced that it will offer a program called the UW Flexible Option.

Headline of the Week: Alone in Public

Articles on the future of libraries and the future of the residential college are very interesting to me. The steady stream of insights and ideas in these articles informs an ongoing conversation in my mind.

“For Making the Most of College, It’s Still Location, Location, Location” caught my interest. It started with the title – “…Location, Location, Location.” This is an oft used phrase for a key parameter to determining the value of real estate. If a property has a good location that is a driver that increases the value of the property.

Headline of the Week: A Story of Innovation

This week I came across an interesting story. It started with a posting on the Luther College and Friends LinkedIn site. It turned out to be an old posting but it was resurrected as a side effect of a very recent commenter. The commenter was encouraging a young Luther Alum, Scott Meyer, on his (then new) project to create “A Travel Hacking Guide to Norway.”

Scott was struggling with the problem of the high cost for travelers in Norway; especially ones he’d hoped would come and visit that didn’t.
