Preus Library

Library and Information Services (LIS) maintains a number of public use facilities. Preus Library is the predominant facility, in addition to a number of computing facilities distributed across campus.

Preus Library has three floors that are accessible to the public. You enter the library on the second floor, or main level. This second floor is really the hub of the library, housing many of the library's resources and services.

DVDs and Videos

The collection includes feature films such as Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Million Dollar Baby; documentaries such as Ken Burns’ The War and Al Gore’s An Inconvient Truth; many PBS broadcasts such as The State of the Planet’s Wildlife and Martin Luther; musicals such as Brigadoon, The Wizard of Oz, and The Sound of Music; collections of television shows such as Inspector Morse, Upstairs Downstairs, and MacGyver; operatic performances and film adaptations of dramatic works.

DVDs are found near the Research Help desk.

Leisure Reading and New Books

Are you an avid mystery reader? Do you enjoy reading current autobiographies or memoirs? Or are you interested in browsing the latest books purchased by Preus Library? If so, stop by and browse through our Leisure Reading and New Books area located on the main floor of Preus Library.

The Leisure Reading collection is a collection of current and recent bestsellers, both popular fiction and non-fiction. You can find mystery, suspense, and detective novels in this area, along with fully illustrated cartoon books, adventure novels, autobiographies, and memoirs.

Curriculum Library

Curriculum Library

The Curriculum Library is on the lower floor of Preus Library, at the south end of the building.  The materials in the Curriculum Library support the elementary and secondary teacher education programs at Luther College.

The collection includes children’s picture books, young adult fiction, non-fiction, K-12 textbooks, and teachers’ resources. These materials have restricted loan periods; view our circulation policies for additional information.

Atlas Area

The Atlas Area of Preus Library is located on the main level, next to the Reference Collection. This area contains both current and historical atlases of all regions of the world. There is also a large globe in this area.

Senior Study Carrels

Luther College seniors may apply for an individual study space in Preus Library. Senior carrels are located around the perimeter of the upper level (third floor) of the library. Senior study carrels provide you a personal space so ongoing work may be left in the library.

Writing Lab


The Writing Lab, on the main floor of the library next to the Technology Call Center, provides tutors to assist with all levels of college writing.

Telephones

Campus Telephone

A campus telephone is located on the main floor of Preus Library near the restrooms. This is an out-going phone only, and in-coming calls are not accepted at the phone.

Cell Phones

Please be considerate of others when using your cell phone in Preus Library. Set ringer to vibrate, if possible. Keep your voice low or leave study areas.

Restrooms

Restrooms are found on each floor of Preus Library near the center stairwell, along the west hallway.

In addition, handicapped accessible restrooms are located on Preus Library's lower floor, in the southeast corner, via the elevator.

Printers

Public printing is available from the public access computers located on the main floor of Preus Library between the Reference and Circulation Desks. Print-outs can be retrieved from the public photocopiers, and cost $.10 per page.

Printing is also available in each of the library’s general computer labs.
