At approximately 2:00pm Saturday afternoon adastra.luther.edu stopped functioning. LIS is working to restore service as soon as possible.

LIS Website to be unavailable during weekly maintenance window, 8/6/2009

The LIS website will be undergoing routine maintenance this Thursday morning. Access should be restored by 7:30 am.

Google makes a Wave

Today, Google gave a preview of it’s “next big thing” for internet communication, named “Wave,” at the Google I/O Developers Conference.

Wave was conceived as “how email would look if it was invented today.” Very simply put, it converges functionality of email, instant messaging, document sharing, blogging (and just about any other communication functionality a creative developer could dream up).

Wave is still in development, planned for release later this fall.

Google Books Previews in Magnus

Available now in Magnus are links to content provided by Google Books.

When matching content is found, a “Google Books Preview” button will appear in the right-hand column of an item record. The button will link to one of three types of content, depending on what is provided:

  1. Full text – A scanned edition of the text. ex. The History of Winneshiek and Allamakee Counties
  2. Partial preview – A preview of the text, often about 10-30 pages are available. ex.

Research Pro unavailable 7-8pm -- Tues April 14, 2009

Our vendor has announced that Research Pro will be unavailable starting at 7:00 PM for about one hour, as they perform routine maintenance.

New LIS Staff Directory

Today we are introducing a new interface for the LIS staff directory. Still located at http://lis.luther.edu/about/staff, the new directory allows you to filter the LIS staff according to service team, and also links to individual profile pages for each LIS staff member.

Encore Introduces New Features

With the recent upgrade to Encore 2.0, new features are available in the LIS’s resource discovery tool.

  • Individual logon – Available from the top right corner of any Encore page, this will give you access to your library account information, and will display a notification messages, such as when an item is coming due.
  • Community tagging – Sometimes subject headings just aren’t enough! Now, logged-in users can create searchable tags from the bottom of each item record. Community-contributed tags will appear in the tag cloud on the search results page.
