LIS Website Changes - 04/02/2009

This week a number of modules were updated to most recent versions.

Also, modifications were made to the site style to bring more consistency to the appearance of the site from different browsers.

Encore has been upgraded and is once again available from the LIS Research page. New features and capabilities will be configured and announced as the week goes on!

Encore Unavailable, March 23-24, 2009

The Encore resource discovery tool will be unavailable for a period of time from Monday, March 23 to Tuesday, March 24. During this time, an updated version of Encore will be installed — watch the blog for more information on the new features made available.

During the downtime for Encore, you may still search Magnus, the Luther online catalog, at http://books.luther.edu, or via the search box on the LIS Research page.

LIS Website Downtime

The LIS website will be unavailable beginning at 7:00 am, Thursday, March 19 for about 1 hour, while routine maintenance is being performed.

Web Usability Testing Updates, March 2009

A number of updates were made recently to the LIS Research page as a result of the second round of web usability tests. A full record of changes and updates made as a result of this project is available at http://lis.luther.edu/usability/updates.

On March 24, Ryan Gjerde will report on the progress of this project via a poster session at the EDUCAUSE Midwest Regional Conference in Chicago. The poster session will be available to LIS staff and Luther community members following Spring Break.

Gale LRC/MLA Index Updated

The interface for the Literature Resource Center and MLA International Bibliography, by Gale, has been updated recently. Among the new features is the ability to search within a particular title in Literature Resource Center (such as “Dictionary of Literary Biography”).

EBSCO EJS Journals Unavailable, Friday Feb. 13, 10 pm - 11 pm

EBSCO has notified us that its EBSCOhost EJS service will be down for routine maintenance for about an hour, beginning at 10:00 PM, Friday, February 13, 2009.

EJS provides linked full-text access to a handful of journals in EBSCO databases such as Academic Search Complete and Business Source Elite.

LIS joins YouTube

Today, the first in a series of LIS How-To videos has been posted to LIS’s YouTube channel. Videos will be embedded in LIS How-To pages, (such as How to Search Encore) but will also be available from the Luther College LIS YouTube channel.
