Magnus searching alternatives

As we are still experiencing down-time on the books.luther.edu server, which supports Magnus, the library catalog, here are a few alternative methods for viewing materials held in Preus Library.

  • WorldCat — Available to current students, staff and faculty via Norse Key, this source lists Luther holdings along with holdings for other libraries around the world. From the search page, select “Limit availability to: Items in my library,” at the bottom of the search form.

NAXOS 2.0 Arrives

Naxos Music Library has released version 2.0 of their web interface. Users will notice that the main page layout has changed slightly.

The most noticeable difference in the new version is the addition of support for the Microsoft Silverlight media player. Our early experience has been that Silverlight provides a more consistent end-user experience across platforms and browsers.

Naxos remains compatible with Windows Media Player, but users will be invited to install Silverlight the first time a track is played in the new interface.

As of Sept.

Connecting to Licensed Resources Update

Direct on-campus access to licensed databases has been restored.

Off-campus access remains available through the LIS website, and requires users to enter their Norse Key.

LIS and our vendors continue to work on restoring direct on-campus access to electronic journals we acquire directly from the publisher. During this time, complete access is available after entering Norse Key information at the proxy login screen that appears after clicking the link in Magnus to full text access.

LIS Website Switches Default Theme

The LIS website is sporting a redesigned theme for its default as of this afternoon. This theme takes into account feedback we’ve received from many over the last several weeks since the new site launched. One other notable change is the search engine on the site now defaults to the integrated search engine for our publishing system Drupal. This will accurately return authenticated search results and provide some enhanced Drupal-specific search features that are not possible currently with our Google engine.
