Germano Streese

Reference and Instruction Librarian, Visiting Assistant Professor

Year Started at Luther: 2005

Germano Streese is Luther’s Reference & Instruction Librarian. As a librarian, he spends much of his time answering questions and helping people find the information they need. He also teaches Paideia, works with the Library Instruction program, and is Liaison to the Departments of Modern Languages, Environmental Studies, Physical Education/Health, and Mathematics. Germano would like to point out that the Research Help desk is an excellent place to start with questions regarding informational needs connected to any research project people are involved in.

Text a Call Number From Magnus

Have you ever found yourself without a piece of paper or a pen after finding a call number in the library catalog?

Now, if you are searching in Magnus, you can send a text message to your phone which will include the title, author and call number for your book.

Just click the “Send via Text Message” button found in the middle of most Magnus item displays (here’s an example), then enter your phone number and select your cell provider — it’s that simple!

The texting service is available for the following cell providers:

  • Alltel
  • AT&T/Cin

Create a Citation in Magnus

Magnus now has the ability to display example citations for many of the books, journals, videos, and music in the Luther Library Collection.

When looking at a full item record in Magnus (here’s an example), on many records you will now see a link immediately below title and imprint information, labeled “Cite this Item (from WorldCat).” Example citations will be given in the following formats:

  • APA
  • Chicago (Author-Date)
  • Harvard
  • MLA
  • Turabian

“Cite this Item” is provided by OCLC, and is also available from WorldCat.org

New books and DVDs in the library

For those who are wondering what books and DVDs we have added to the Preus Library collection over the summer the New Books list has been updated to include the 375 items purchased from May through August. The list is sorted by title and isn’t searchable but a search of Encore or Magnus will tell you if a particular item is in the collection.

How to find articles from the new Library Research site

Several people have asked about how to find articles from journals using the new Library Research website. Let me count the ways:

1) Using Encore, our new research and discovery tool. The Research page uses Encore as its default search. Along with searching Magnus (the library’s online catalog) if you enter a search term in the Encore search box (and you are on campus) that term is also sent to the Academic Search Complete, JSTOR and Project Muse databases.
