Headline of the Week: Plan for LIS External Communications

During the 2007-08 academic year, LIS spent time developing an internal communication plan designed to better manage how we communicate with one another across a diverse organization with broad responsibilities and services.

Headline of the Week: LIS Welcomes the Class of 2012

Tomorrow is move-in day for the Class of 2012, and many from LIS will be participating in transitioning the new class to campus over the coming days. Work will begin tomorrow as volunteer LIS staff and Help Desk student workers work the residence halls to be sure students have a relatively painless experience attaching to our residential network.

Headline of the Week: The Future of Calendaring at Luther

Beginning in January 2009, we will replacing our current Oracle Collaboration Suite calendaring system for Luther with Norse Calendar, part of our Norse Apps suite of applications we license from Google. Currently only about 250 Luther community members use Oracle, though for some of them it is a critical support application. Our new system will have many benefits including:

• Everyone will have a calendar – including students.

Headline of the Week: 2007-08 LIS Annual Report and Snapshot Published

As we prepare to launch the new academic year in just a couple weeks, we close the book on the 2007-08 academic year with the completion of the LIS Annual Report. Notable points include:

• The full report is being published only electronically this year on the LIS website.
• The condensed “Snapshot” is also now available as a PDF download.

Headline of the Week: Bad Week in Washington

A notable week from the nation’s capital … as a former Alaska resident, I took note of the federal indictments against Alaska’s long-time senator Ted Stevens for allegedly accepting and hiding gifts from an oil service company in the state. The hullaballoo about his legal troubles have dredged up a fair amount of press on Senator Stevens, the former chair of the Senate Commerce Committee (with oversight over ecommerce and the Internet).
